Pavement Tuesday #5
For the next few Tuesdays, I’m gonna focus on songs that I thought should have been included on the forthcoming Pavement “Best-of” (The track list was announced last week. The disc is released on March 9th), but weren’t.
“Father to a Sister of a Thought” off Wowee Zowee wasn’t Pavement’s first stab at country rock, but it’s arguably their best. As with most classic Pavement songs, the lyrics are impenetrable but immensely pleasing. (Your guess as to what “Angel of Corpus Christi, you’re so misty, tell me what I wanna hear” means is as good as mine.) And as a guitar player, I’m pretty enamored with the chord progression in the verses (G-Dm-C-A), and I’ll usually strum it out anytime I pick up an acoustic. Also, it’s my second favorite Pavement video. (The first? Duh.) Rollerblading cowboys eating fast food is a winning combination in any video.
Only 33 more Tuesdays until Pavement plays Central Park!
